Academic Achievements

At A level, the 2024 cohort has set a new benchmark of success. An impressive 29% of all grades awarded were A* or equivalent, with 67% at A*-A and 88% at A*-B. Notably, six pupils achieved four A* grades, while a further twenty-two earned a minimum of three A* grades. Overall, more than two-thirds of all grades were either A* or A, with 44% of pupils achieving straight A*/A grades. These results have enabled the vast majority of pupils to secure places at their chosen universities, including seventeen who have been accepted to Oxford and Cambridge.

At (I)GCSE 30% of all grades awarded were grade 9, with 53% achieving either a grade 9 or 8 and 74% graded at 9-7. Remarkably, as with last year, grade 9 was the most common grade achieved by Oundle pupils, with the average grade standing at 7.4. There were some standout individual performances, with eleven pupils achieving eleven straight grade 9s, amassing a total of 121 top grades and a further eighteen pupils attaining straight grade 9s and 8s. An additional forty pupils achieved straight grades 9-7.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Teachers from all departments lead Electives and Societies that reflect their own leisure interests or skills outside the classroom. Several are run by senior pupils. They are an opportunity for pupils to broaden academic horizons and explore artistic, literary, cultural or sporting activities without having to be tested on the experience. They offer a chance for pupils to delve deeper into things that really interest them, such as dissection and photography, as well as a chance to have a go at something that they have never done before, such as bridge or shooting. Above all, they are designed to be fun and embrace the enjoyment of learning.

Boarding Life

Each of the senior boarding Houses are specifically designed to have family accommodation for a Housemaster or Housemistress and, aside from the smaller Berrystead, each houses approximately sixty pupils, with roughly twelve in each year group. Each House also has a live-in Matron who, in addition to managing the domestic affairs of the House, helps to look after the health and welfare of the boys and girls. There are eight boys’ Houses and five girls’ Houses.

Accommodation varies between Houses, with some pupils in bedsits in their first year, whereas others may share small dormitories and work in separate studies. All Sixth Form pupils are in bedsits, with Upper Sixth formers in single bedsits. Each boarding House has common recreation areas, a library, TV room and kitchens for pupil use.
